Its all about R-H-Y-T-H-M!!
Use this page to help you review rhythms for your audition.
You can download and make your own rhythm cards at home! Parents, just download the files below, print them out, and have your child manipulate them to make different patterns! If you do not want to print them out you can just make them at home using standard index cards and draw the images using a black sharpie or customize them by using a different color for each type of note! You can use them to write a rhythm song using the names of your family, pets, or any thing you can think of!
Printing the files on card stock will make them last longer. If you print on paper, use a glue stick and stick them on construction paper using different colors for each type of note to add a little pzazz to your cards! If you would like to challenge your student, write the name of each note on the back and have them try to draw it of a piece of paper to really test their skills.

Rhythm Math!!
We have been talking about how rhythms are like fractions. Each note is a different fraction of a measure and how many beats it takes up in the measure. Brush up on your math skills and use the Rhythm Cards and have your parents place them in a random order and have you add up their total number of beats! Parents, you can print a music math worksheet from the files at the bottom of the page!

How to read the chart.
Here is another chart that shows each rhythm, its name, and its matching rest!
Whole Note = 4 Beats
The Whole Note takes up the WHOLE of the measure without dividing it. So it only takes 1 WHOLE NOTE to fill up and entire measure.
The word we use for this rhythm is - "TA-A-A-A"
Half Note = 2 Beats
The Half Note takes up HALF of the measure when you divide it. It takes 2 HALF NOTES to fill the entire measure.
The word we use for this rhythm is - "TA-A"
Quarter Note = 1 Beat
The Quarter Note takes up a QUARTER or 1/4 of the measure when you divide it. It takes 4 QUARTER NOTES to fill the entire measure.
The word we use for this rhythm is - "TA"
Eighth Notes = 1/2 a Beat
The Eighth Note takes up an EIGHTH or 1/8 or the measure when you divide it. It takes 8 EIGHTH NOTES to fill the entire measure.
The words we use for this rhythm are "TA-TI"
**The same beats go with the rests with the matching first name! Except we just say "REST" and extend the "EH" sound until we reach all of our beats!**
