A Brief History of Jazz
Jazz is a genre of music that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is based on two other styles of music the blues and ragtime.Jazz style music is characterized by swung rhythms, "blue" notes, call and response vocals, and improvisation.
One of the most interesting things about jazz music is that its never performed the same way twice. What is meant by that is soloists do not always repeat something they did during a previous performance of the same piece! They study the ins and outs of the chords created by the band and compose their own part on the fly! They make up different rhythms, melodies, and if there are two people performing together as a duet they may echo something their counterpart played but change it just slightly.
