Our wonderful young musicians are getting ready to put on their grade level shows! The students and I are very excited to show you what we have been working on in class this semester! We have been singing in different languages, learning American folk songs and those of other countries. The theme for our performance series is "Keep the Whole World Singing". We will feature music from around the world and patriotic tunes from the United States as well as some songs about our planet and songs about uplifting the human spirit!
The nights for the performances will be grouped as follows: - 4th & 5th Grade - Will perform on the "Night of the Arts" here at Guild along with our Book Fair and Student Art Show - 2nd & 3rd Grade (time and date TBA) - Kindergarten & 1st (time and date TBA) Once we have solidified the dates and times for K-3 letters will go home with students. You can also check here for updates by going to your child's grade page at the top under "Music Class" When we come back from Spring Break, we will hold auditions for the talent show the week of April 16th - 20th from 11:20 am-11:45 am. Students are to wear their "Sunday Best" attire for the show. Please no jeans and t-shirts. Tennis shoes are acceptable. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me and I will respond as soon as possible. (Please note that the contact form goes to my school email and I do not have access to it other than my desktop. If it is the weekend I will respond the following Monday.) As stated before, once dates and times have been solidified and approved, letters will go out to all students. Parents of choir students!! I will be selecting 5 students to represent Guild Elementary School at the Sumner County Elementary Honor Choir this year. Honor Choir will happen in mid March and students who are selected to participate will be required to stay after school On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 - 3:30 to prepare and work on the music
Once I have selected the students I will issue music to them. Keep an eye out on our "Choir" page for updates on when I select the student representatives! If your student's grade for music was not printed on their report card, students grades in music class can be seen on iNow. Students grades K -3rd did not post from my computer and I deeply apologize. I can assure you that all students in those grades are performing VERY well!
I have also been asked about the grades for 4th and 5th graders. Their grades were based on the number of belts they earned in Recorder Karate. I have gone over the minimum requirement for receiving a high mark with the students since the first day that we began recorders back in August. The grading goes as follows;
I hope everyone is having a great year! Check your grade pages for more information on whats going on in the classroom!!! Our Coloring Contest was a big hit! we had so many submissions colored by some amazingly talented students that choosing just 2 winners from each grade was not an easy task! Our winners each received a certificate with their names and three special students received their very own nutcracker for having the most votes per picture category! Thank you to all of the students who submitted their work and to all of the teachers and staff for voting on these amazing young artists!
Pictures will be posted soon! Have a wonderful Winter Break and Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and a Happy New Year to all! At Guild Elementary School, our music class strives to proved all of our students with an enriching musical experience. We provide our students with opportunities to perform through our Choir and Orff Ensemble as well as our annual school wide performance where the students get to show off their talents and what they have been learning all year! We also encourage our students to experience all kinds of music through our Multi-cultural approach to broaden the students minds to musical styles and influences from around the globe and throughout history.
Encourage your child to listen to a variety of music at home and browse our links page for fun music games for children of all ages as well as MusicTheory.net for the more advanced or eager learner! A calendar will be available soon with concert and performance dates as well as practice times for our ensembles. We hope to see you soon! Thomas J. Lawrence Music Teacher Guild Elementary School |
